Overview:

BANC3 is developing a new technology intended to support firefighters in safely and effectively combating fires. The technology is being developed in collaboration with the Department of War (DoW) and our objective is to ensure that the system reflects the real operational needs of firefighters and fire departments.

As part of this effort, we are seeking a Los Angeles–based Fire Service Advisor who can help ensure that firefighter perspectives and operational requirements are incorporated throughout the development process.

The advisor will help facilitate engagement with leaders, evaluators, and operational personnel within the Los Angeles Fire Department and other regional fire agencies. We are also interested in working closely with stakeholders from the City of Los Angeles to ensure that the technology aligns with municipal priorities and public safety needs.

This role is ideal for a respected member of the fire service community—such as a retired chief officer, battalion chief, or senior fire service leader—who maintains strong relationships within Los Angeles fire departments and city leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance on firefighter operational needs and fireground realities.
  • Help incorporate firefighter input and operational feedback into the technology development process.
  • Facilitate introductions to leadership, operational personnel, and technology evaluators within the Los Angeles Fire Department and surrounding departments.
  • Advise on how fire departments and municipalities evaluate and procure new technologies.
  • Support engagement with relevant stakeholders within the City of Los Angeles, particularly those involved in public safety innovation and procurement.
  • Identify opportunities for pilot programs, demonstrations, and field evaluations.
  • Provide insight into regulatory, operational, and organizational considerations for deploying new technology in fire departments.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong professional relationships within the Los Angeles fire service community.
  • Prior leadership or senior operational experience in a fire department.
  • Familiarity withmunicipal procurement processes and public safety technology evaluation.
  • Ability to connect with decision-makers responsible for technology evaluation, procurement, or operational leadership.
  • Based in or actively engaged with the Los Angeles fire service ecosystem.

Preferred Background:

Candidates may include individuals who have served as:

  • Battalion Chief
  • Deputy Chief
  • Assistant Chief
  • Fire Chief
  • Fire Department Technology or Innovation Advisor

Experience working with or advising the Los Angeles Fire Department or the City of Los Angeles is strongly preferred.

Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 5–10 hours per week (Flexible)
  • Flexible schedule
  • Occasional in-person meetings in Los Angeles

Compensation:

  • Competitive consulting rate or monthly retainer
